Yes and No

Yes-  We will always be able to import a SIF and be able to create a SIF file from ProjectSpec.  We will also continue to offer various SIF file exports for different Dealer Business Systems, and Order Entry Systems.

No-  The only reason there is a NO to this question is because the new native format to a file created in ProjectSpec5 is that it will be .PMX file extension.  This is due to having a database format to handle additional fields and functionality while using ProjectSpec.  There is a setting under the Preferences screen to allow you to always save a .SIF with the .PMX file.  However, while you are working on the project, you should continue to open the .PMX file since that will contain additional information and fields that are not saved to the .SIF.

The .PMX file give us more abilty with regards to your “project”.  The .PMX file stores and associates the following with the project.  That means that these things get packaged with and associated with that project anytime or anywhere you open it unlike .SIF where they are all linked:

  • ProjectInfo  (.CIF)
  • Discount Tables (.DIS, or new .DISX)
  • Standard Option Tables (.SOT or new .SOTX)
  • Part images and swatches
